Host range and symptoms
First reported
in Rubus idaeus; from Ontario, Canada and New York, U.S.A.; by Rankin and
Hockey (1922).
Natural host range and symptoms
Symptoms persist.
Symptoms leaf curling, shoot proliferation, stunting, fruits are small and
crumbly.
- Rubus idaeus, R. occidentalis, R. fruticosus, R. × neglectus
- leaf curling, proliferation of shoots and stunting.
Transmission
Transmitted by a vector; an insect; Aphis
rubicola; Aphididae. Not transmitted by Amphorophora agathonica.
Transmitted in a persistent manner. Virus retained when the vector moults; not
transmitted congenitally to the progeny of the vector; not transmitted by
mechanical inoculation; transmitted by grafting; not transmitted by contact
between plants; not transmitted by seed; not transmitted by pollen.
Ecology and control
Studies reported by Stace-Smith (1962).
Geographical distribution
Spreads in the North American
region; Canada and the USA.
Experimental host range
Few (<3) families susceptible.
Experimentally infected plants mostly show downcurling of leaves, yellowing and
stunting.
Diagnostically susceptible host species and symptoms
- Rubus idaeus, R. albescens, R. henryi, Fragaria vesca -
downcurling of leaves and leaf yellowing.
Diagnostically insusceptible
host species
Chenopodium quinoa, Nicotiana tabacum, Cucumis
sativus, Phaseolus vulgaris, Vigna unguiculata ssp. unguiculata.
Maintenance and propagation hosts
Assay hosts (Local lesions or Whole plants)
